Pinterest is quickly becoming one of the most popular social media sites ever made. It is unique in its design and was the first true hit for the social photo format. Imitators have come and gone, and many others exist with less success. Even the demographic is shifting from being almost entirely women to including quite a few men, and marketers have been going nuts with the possibilities of using the site to their advantage.
But with popularity comes the cynics. Quite a few parody sites have popped up, pointing out the less impressive results of the Pinterest phenomenon. Here are five of the best..
1. Pinstrosity
There are some excellent projects and tips offered on Pinterest. But some of the categories on the site are more reliable than others, and the more crafty ideas tend to be lacking in final results. This site is broken down into categories as well, like missing directions, misprinted supplies, cleaning tips gone awry, DIY project fails and less than stellar recipes.
2. Pinterest, You Are Drunk
Every once in awhile you will see a pin that is so overboard you can’t believe it exists. Like this bride who has a train that presumably runs to the end of the Earth. Or these croquet covers for the toilet. If you have ever seen something on Pinterest that makes you question the sanity of the original poster (and those who pinned the photos in admiration), then you probably belong on this site.
3. Really, Pinterest?
Not all pins are insane, some are just odd. A baby chick peeking out adorably from a hamburger bun? This site has that. Funny sign misspellings? Yep, they have that, too. A large, naked woman in nothing but a see-through raincoat and boots walking through the street? It’s here on this Tumblr account for you to gawk at.
4. Pinterest Fail
A couple of months ago I gave into the morbid pull of Pinterest and decided to try an artsy craft with my kids. They made it look so easy! Just shave some broken crayons into a muffin tin with liners, book it on a low temperature and made beautiful stain glass images on cellophane. The end result? Stained, waxy fingers and a ruined muffin tin. I could have easily submitted the fail to this blog, where it would be in good company.
5. WTF Pinterest
I have definitely seen some weird stuff on Pinterest, but weirdest has been some of the reactions from the pinners. The most hilariously useless pins are given special boards where people will ooh and ah over them like a firework show. If you are easily offended (such as in this “Put a Baby On It!” post), this blog might not be for you. For for those of us who are connoisseurs of sarcasm, it is a great place to call home.

When I upload my own pictures onto pinterest, they never show up in the search.
Is there some way of tagging them or something?
1. Are my Pinterest searches visible to others?
2. Can I see a list of my own searches?
3. If yes, how?
Thanks!
I sent a request to join Pinterest yesterday morning…and I still haven’t been accepted? How long do you usually have to stay on the waiting list before you can start your account?
I’m new to Pinterest. What are your favorite Pintrests for DIY things (clothes, makeup, art, etc) and art?
I look at the women’s clothing on pinterest and I think it’s so cute!! But I never know where to find it. If any of you know please comment. Thanks!
Sometimes on Pinterest there are forbidden links that Pinterest blocks. How do I find out where to get my pin or the image and get past the forbidden link?
What determines who you are? You are classified by the categories you fit in (smarties, athletes, cool, Asian, etc.) wheter you fit in or not depends on the situation. The main characters of The Bean Trees and The Good Earth “fit in” in some situations and are left out in others. Therefore, they were neither entirely insiders nor outsiders.
In The Bean Trees, Taylor Greer is the main character. She was not completely in or completely out. Taylor is an outsider to the rest of the world. At school, according to her ex-boyfriend, she “dressed like an eye test.” She would rather “dress memorably” than look like the others. However, she became an insider when it came to Lou Ann. Within minutes of meeting, they established the fact that they belong together like peanut butter and jelly. They were like some family on a TV commercial. Overall, Taylor was never a full insider or outsider.
Wang Lung, the main character in The Good Earth, could be described in many ways. He can be an insider, an outsider, and both at the same time. A reason Wang Lung is an insider is because he has a son who can read and write. He fit in with the other wealthy families who have a scholar in the house and bumped himself out of the group of families that don’t. However, Wang lung is also an outsider. “With his face burning and his head bowed, he walked through court after court, hearing that voice roaring ahead of him, hearing tinkles of laughter on every side” and feeling embarrassed that he was inferior compared to the people of the house of Hwang. On the other hand, there were times where he was both an insider and an outsider at the same time. For example, when he met the foreigner in the city, he felt that “he was no longer that wholly foreign” since there was someone more foreign than he was but he still didn’t quite belong to the city. He was somewhere in the middle of the groups. It is evident that Wang Lung is both an insider and an outsider.
In conclusion, there are both insider and outsider themes in both The Bean Trees and The Good Earth. Sometimes they were in, and others they were out. Often, they were somewhere in the middle. However, this is what classifies them as themselves.

I love Pinterest but I’ve always had trouble with followers. I currently have 10 followers and about an average of 20 followers for each of my boards. I don’t understand why my followers are so less compared with other people who have like 200 followers even though they only have one pin in their album. Does anybody know why?
