Comcast to buy Time Warner Cable for $45 billion – USA TODAY

Comcast agreed to buy Time Warner Cable for $45 billion Wednesday night, swooping in to top a bid by Charter Communications to merge the nation’s top two cable companies in a huge media deal, according to a person familiar with the matter.
I don’t understand why. I live in Southern California and the main cable provider is time warner. so, why does comcast have more subscribers? (got this from the ncta website).
It seems like every day I experience some kind of connection issue with Comcast. I am getting really tired of it. I would like to know how reliable AT&T DSL is since it seems to be my only other choice besides dial up. (I’m a gamer so dial up is not an option anyway.) I mean seriously, before Comcast bought Insight I never had problems, not even in the Feb ’07 blizzard. And when I lived in Houston and had Time Warner I had service during tropical storms. Your opinions are much appreciated.
Well, it seems like whenever the weather is bad I lose my connection, but oddly enough not my cable TV. Also, the cable outside was never burried, but I’ve been told that shouldn’t make a difference. Of course, I also lose my internet in GOOD weather too. I’ve thought about requesting a new modem, but this one isn’t even 2 years old.
I have cable, Roadrunner and some HD channels through Time Warner and don’t buy any extras or purchase any movies on demand. Yet my bill seems to go up almost every month. I’m about fed up with their service as well. Anyone else experienced the same problems?
I sent them a check for the same amount my bill was last month even though it was 8 dollars less than the amount the bill was for.Quit overcharging people Time Warner Cable!
Anyone else having problems with most channels saying that they will “be available shortly”? We have been waiting since last night for the channels to be available.
I saw a piece on the news that said because Comcast bought out Time Warner that people were having problems. Comcast did not acknowledge any problems.
I called this morning and they said they would send a signal to clear up the problem. They said if that did not work to unplug everything for 10-15 min. I have done both and nothing helps.
So…. Have you guys found anything that works?
Thanks!
we got rid of cable in my house and now we have regular cable (25 channels). the reason was to upgrade to something new. i heard about internet television streaming like boxee box. (this is for my mom btw not me) but i dont know anything about these new internet accessed cable alternatives. my mom’s main concern is that she will be able to watch a new episode of her shows when they are released and watching the news.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
THANKS!
I just got my cable bill and it appears I am now a comcast subscriber! WTF!?
I had Time Warner now it appears to be Comcast. I live in Memphis, TN
I’m moving to New Hampshire, and need to get a landline, TV, internet, the works. Any suggested service providers?
does someone know why/how 2 internet providers said that they cannot provide cable INTERNET service to my area, but a 3rd provider said that is available?
Are they lying—will I get poor cable speed if I sign with them? Currently I do have CABLE TELEVISION service. Does this make a difference?
Im using a HDMI to DVI cable to run my comcast HD box. I have a plasma with no HDMI so I have to use the DVI connector. THe problem I run into is that I get no sound since DVI carries no sound and the captioning comes on and I have to read the captioning. I know I have to buy a cable for the sound but will this get rid of captioning. Any suggestions…
It is a bit cheaper and the HD package is better. If anyone has done the swtich, please let me know if it was worth it.
i had adelphia until it got bought by comcast, and i guess they are still working out some kinks, because our internet service is going in and out. does anyone know how long it will take to get back to normal?
I’m thinking of buying Tivo Sereies 2, but I have heard conflicting statements on whether it will work easily with my digital cable box from Time Warner (and with a wireless network, no phone line). Does anyone who has Time Warner (just to be sure b/c Comcast or Cablevision might be different!) have Tivo and does it work easy?
Unfortunately, my cable company – Comcast – was bought by Time Warner Cable. The quality of the video and Internet signal remains unchanged, but I immediately noticed there is easily 40% less content available on their OnDemand than there was with Comcast. Alot of what is missing is the programming for young children – which I used a great deal with my two sons. I am really disheartened by this and am resentful that I am paying the same amount for less service. Any thoughts?
