The two terms sound incredibly similar, which gives the mistaken impression that they must be the same.
I see many people getting confused when you are talking about name anchors… “Is this what we need to build links for?”… Ugh, no.
The two are used for different functions entirely, and they have different tags used to make them.
Link Anchor Text
The simplest way to explain that: anchor text = visible text of the link
For example, let’s say you were speaking about Google’s search engine. In the post itself, you might mention that Google has been offering lots of cool user tools
Notice how I have anchored the link into the text speaking about Google. Clicking on that link will take you top their website. This is the same process used by people who want to connect articles together. So they would anchor a link to relevant text speaking about another post on the same blog, or page on the site.

Google: Link anchor text is believed to be the most powerful SEO element. Read more about that here.
Linking to Anchor
When people adapt books, scientific studies, research papers, tutorials, or any other kind of wall-of-text style page, they will create different anchor points within it to make navigation simpler for the reader.
Name anchor allows you to point the reader to a specific part of the page…
<a name=”Section Title”></a>
Next, create the link pointing to that name anchor. This will use the standard link code, but will feature an ‘#’ before the anchor to signify that it is pointing to a section within the same page. It will look like:
<a href=”#Section Title”>Text</a>.
Google: This link may be picked up and used by Google to form the search snippet to point the user to a specific part of your web page:
Conclusion
Most of us have to do it on a regular basis; it’s the terminology that can be misleading!

What is Google ? Who is Google ?
What determines who you are? You are classified by the categories you fit in (smarties, athletes, cool, Asian, etc.) wheter you fit in or not depends on the situation. The main characters of The Bean Trees and The Good Earth “fit in” in some situations and are left out in others. Therefore, they were neither entirely insiders nor outsiders.
In The Bean Trees, Taylor Greer is the main character. She was not completely in or completely out. Taylor is an outsider to the rest of the world. At school, according to her ex-boyfriend, she “dressed like an eye test.” She would rather “dress memorably” than look like the others. However, she became an insider when it came to Lou Ann. Within minutes of meeting, they established the fact that they belong together like peanut butter and jelly. They were like some family on a TV commercial. Overall, Taylor was never a full insider or outsider.
Wang Lung, the main character in The Good Earth, could be described in many ways. He can be an insider, an outsider, and both at the same time. A reason Wang Lung is an insider is because he has a son who can read and write. He fit in with the other wealthy families who have a scholar in the house and bumped himself out of the group of families that don’t. However, Wang lung is also an outsider. “With his face burning and his head bowed, he walked through court after court, hearing that voice roaring ahead of him, hearing tinkles of laughter on every side” and feeling embarrassed that he was inferior compared to the people of the house of Hwang. On the other hand, there were times where he was both an insider and an outsider at the same time. For example, when he met the foreigner in the city, he felt that “he was no longer that wholly foreign” since there was someone more foreign than he was but he still didn’t quite belong to the city. He was somewhere in the middle of the groups. It is evident that Wang Lung is both an insider and an outsider.
In conclusion, there are both insider and outsider themes in both The Bean Trees and The Good Earth. Sometimes they were in, and others they were out. Often, they were somewhere in the middle. However, this is what classifies them as themselves.
This Political correct b.s. is driving me crazy. I just love how these lberals are trying to modify our English language. McDonald’s “Asian Chicken Salad” should actually be called “Oriental Chicken Salad”. And “African-Americans” should just be called “black” because they have no relationship with Africa except for their blood. And 40 percent of people on television now including commercials are black, just to be politically correct when blacks are only 13% of the American population. Why don’t big companies that advertise their products using 90% non-Whites why don’t they just hold out a sign that says “Kiss me I’m not racist”. And “minorities” bitch and complain for no reason when they are already OVER represented on the media and public eye.
